Moschino - Marie Antoinette Realness
Some runways are pure fun and poke fun at the concept that fashion is all serious, Moschino is one of them. Jeremy Scott took over the helm of Moschino a few years ago and really catapulted it to fame. The brand has always had that element of playfulness but Jeremy Scott really pushed that aspect of the brand and this is one of the reasons I always look at the runway.
The other reason is because it tends to see some of the current supers walk the runway. You know for sure that you are going to see the Hadid Sisters' walk; Irina Shayk and Kaia Gerber usually walk the Moschino runway even though it is definitely quite a concept runway. This is definitely one of those runways that people who have a limited interest in fashion would look at and question how anyone can take fashion seriously but I think you can take elements of the runway for inspiration, no matter who you are.

Autumn/Winter 2020
Last Season saw a Picasso themed runway whereas this season Marie Antoinette was the inspiration. I mean you can see that in the hair alone, although there is definitely a french style to a lot of the patterning and details within the outfits. This runway feels a bit like a caricature of Marie Antoinette and all of the details she was known for, like her hair and draped dresses.
The dress in the picture above sums up this look and the style of Marie Antoinette. I love the quilted effect of the dress and the delicate, almost regal looking print on the dress. It also has the piping around the edge of the dress, this oddly reminds me of a very fancy room in an old house.

Whilst there were a lot of nods to Marie Antoinette, there were also the classic Moschino quirks to the outfits so you have these lace up over the knee boots. The dresses are belted with Moschino branded belts and there are a lot of leather jackets and hoodies. I love the lace up thigh high boots that have been included as part of Gigi's look in the picture above. The boots embody that seductive aspect of Marie Antoinette and the leather jacket adds a modern twist.
I thought the days of over the top branding were over but Moschino is not willing to leave it behind. The branding features in the aforementioned belts, on the tops, in logos on the bag, it is essentially inescapable on this runway. This is typical Moschino, they have always but the name of the brand on a lot of the pieces.

A lot of the more concept dresses have a lot of draping, which a classic dress would have had and they would have had a lot of layers. Some of the layered pieces have a lot of frilling around the sleeves, once again with multiple layers. There are lots of bows but in a similar way to Tom Ford, they are used as a detail rather than being an integral part of the outfit like it was in the Self-Portrait runway.
The wideness of the skirt is the aspect that I feel like people will look at it and question but it plays into the theme so I think this is a valid way of creating the garment. I feel like you could potential see this on a red carpet rather than seeing someone wear it at your local supermarket.

As always with a Moschino runway, there are more sensible outfits that you could consider people actually wearing them. I love the floral print on the outfit in the picture above and Kaia Gerber wore the large hipped version but the shape of this version is more wearable. I love the dress with a matching shirt over the top and this is definitely a more wearable piece.
I love the lapels on the dress and the subtle shaping of the dress around the body. This dress still creates the illusion of larger hips as the bottom of the skirt goes in around the thighs and the waist so it puffs out around the hips. I feel like in this look the only part that really links it to Marie Antoinette is the hair style but everything else is a little bit more muted.
It is important for these more wearable pieces to be mixed in with the more concept pieces to show that the brand is wearable for more than a red carpet. The dress in the picture below feels like something Katy Perry would wear on a red carpet, it is such a strong concept but not a lot of people could pull it off.

Based on This Runway, What Should You Add to Your A/W Wardrobe?
Lace Up Boots - Most of the looks were paired with the same lace up thigh high boots and I love them. They do add a bit of sex appeal to the outfits and also make the shorter hems not seem so severe. I would love a pair of these boots to go with a pair of jeans but I can guarantee they would be too long for my baby legs. Despite this, they are seriously cute.
Exaggerate Your Hips - Wide hips are a thing this season! If you are lucky enough to have hips in the first place, now is the time to make the most of them. If like me you need that little bit of help, look for dresses which go in at the waist and nip back in at the bottom.
Leather Jackets with Feminine Dresses - I think the best finishing touch to every look is a leather jacket. A leather jacket makes everything look good and in this runways case it is these super feminine, old school dresses that would never have been paired with a leather jacket.
Delicate prints in rich colours - This season there are a lot of floral prints which I love because I have been wearing lots of floral prints but for Moschino, these florals are perfectly paired with rich colours like gold. Marie Antoinette was known for a spending issue and that boujieness comes across on this runway.
Marie Antoinette, Your Idol - Marie Antoinette was a divisive figure in French history so she certainly isn't someone to model your life aspirations on, considering it all ended with a guillotine to the head, but you can definitely take some style tips.
