Diamonds are a girl's best friend - and that includes the iconic Barbie doll! Barbie loves diamonds as much as the rest of us. When the first Barbie dolls hit the shelves in 1959 they cost only $3! But over the years special editions, which collaborated with famous clothing and jewelry designers, have claimed unbelievably high prices.
The most expensive Barbie ever was designed by Australian jeweler Stefano Canturi. To raise money for the Breast Cancer Reasearch Foundation, Canturi created a Barbie dripping in white and pink diamonds.
Her necklace featured a one-carat fancy vivid pink emerald-cut diamond arranged in a geometric pattern with smaller white diamond, totaling 3 carats. The necklace alone is worth $300,000!
Clearly, she's a Barbie for big girls!
The doll was sold in an auction for $302,500 in 2010.
Lorraine Schwartz is another jewelry designer who has designed for Barbie as well as the stars. This Barbie is decked out in $25,000 in diamond accessories! She didn't fair so well at auction, however - she only sold for $7,500.
